Dvora Amir

Dvora Amir was born in Jerusalem during the 1948 War of Independence. Her parents were from Poland. After the Six-Day War of 1967 she studied Hebrew literature, Jewish philosophy and Kabbala at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and in 1975-76, English Literature at the University of Illinois.

Today she works at the Centre for Educational Technology in Tel Aviv, where she writes educational programmes on language and literature.

Her first collection Slow Fire (1995) received Israel’s Kugel Prize for that year. Documentary Poems (2003) won the Prime Minister’s Award. Her poems have appeared in various literary journals in Israel, and in English translations abroad. Some feature on the website poetryinternational.org.
